DLC Guided Tour

On December 4, 2025, six members of the Women in IT + Technology group at Rutgers stepped into the Digital Learning Commons (DLC) at Alexander Library on the College Avenue Campus. It felt like walking into the future of learning.
From the moment we entered, the space showcased a state-of-the art technology. Bright, open areas designed for collaboration and creativity greeted us, and we couldn’t wait to explore. Cassandra Sannino, the supervisor, of DLC led us through a series of tech-rich environments that left us inspired.
First, we explored the Huddle Rooms, which are perfect spaces for group work and collaboration. They are equipped with smart displays and whiteboards.
We then proceeded to the Pitch Room, which is a creative zone for students to share ideas and collaborate. Our next stop was the One-Button Studios. This is where creating professional-quality videos is as simple as pressing a green button to start and a red button to stop recording. Cameras, lighting, and green screens make these studios an ideal space for students working on presentations. What surprised us most was that these high-tech tools were amazingly easy to operate.
From the one-button studio, we stepped into the Audio Booth, a setup featuring four microphones and a recording and mixing board, making it an excellent space for podcasting or audio projects. The soundproof panels make this room ideal for creating professional recordings.
Finally, we toured the Computer Lab, featuring more than 70 workstations and height-adjustable desks, giving students the flexibility to sit or stand while working. What stood out most was the thoughtful design. Comfortable seating, movable whiteboards that double as privacy screens, and accessible desks make the DLC not just high-tech, but a welcoming spot on campus.
The hour flew by so fast as we explored, asked questions, and imagined how these spaces empower learning. It was fun, informative, and inspiring glimpse into how Rutgers is shaping the future of education.
A big thank you to Cassandra Sannino and Leroy Wilkins, the Manager of DLC, for making this experience possible for the Women in IT + Technology group!
